What Is a Remanufactured Outboard?
"Remanufactured" is one of the most frequently misinterpreted concepts in the boating industry. You may have heard the term when looking into powerheads, lower units, or carburetors. Regardless, it seems that, depending on the corner of the internet you go searching in, everyone has a different standard for what a remanufactured outboard part should be. That said, the issue at hand isn't the quality of remanufactured units; it's the misrepresentation of them by uninformed sellers. Sometimes, sellers will list a used unit that has been cleaned and repaired as a fully remanufactured unit. The difference is that it hasn't gone through the remanufacturing process. Here at OBR, our reman process includes complete disassembly, cleaning, and inspection of a used core, followed by reassembly with new gears, bearings, seals, and O-rings, while any other out-of-spec part gets replaced entirely. Every single unit that leaves our warehouse is always up to OE specifications and proves to be just as reliable, time after time.
